Bad Call Confessional

Tales of Terrible Calls

An umpire with thick blue glasses once called a strike that bounced BEHIND me. It was a dirt field. The dirt kicked up and was all over the ball. I ended up striking out.

One umpire pulled a full ham sandwich out of his pocket during a pitching change. He didn't even hide it. Just stood there behind the catcher, took a massive bite, and then called a perfect strike three with mustard on his chin. Total power move.

— Brett, North Bellmore North Merrick

My grandpa spent three innings heckling the home plate umpire for being 'blind as a bat' only to find out it was his old friend from growing up that he hadn't seen in thirty years! The reunion happened at the fence behind home plate, and now they FaceTime.

— Timmy, Albertson

I help run the fields in my local community. The umpire had the coach call me down to replace the bases because he felt they were too flat. I raced down to the field to replace them. Not even 10 minutes later, I get another call from the coach telling me to bring the old bases back because the umpire thought the bases were "too bouncy." I can't imagine how the Goldilocks umpire called balls and strikes.
